Social Inequality in the Housing Market

Social Inequality in the Housing Market

Against the background of increasingly tight housing markets, particularly in urban areas, this research project addresses two sets of questions. First, we assess which social groups are particularly affected by tight housing markets. Second, we investigate the consequences of scarcity on housing choices, geographic mobility, family formation, as well as a person’s social networks and life satisfaction. The mutual interdependence of these domains is in a particular focus of the project, as is heterogeneity in the responses to tight housing markets by socio-economic status and in their consequences for the life course.
